QuAxium Dashboard: A Smart Manufacturing App for Dimensional Measurement and Process Control

Introduction

With over 10 years of QA/QC experience working for Japanese manufacturing firms, I’ve learned firsthand how critical quality assurance and process control are to achieving operational excellence.

Japanese manufacturing is an excellent environment to work in—it places strong emphasis on quality, training workers, and standardizing processes. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across Assembly, Automotive, Plastic Injection, and Electroplating industries, which gave me a deep appreciation of how data shapes both planning and execution on the shop floor.

This experience inspired me to design and build the QuAxium Dashboard App, a smart desktop tool that monitors dimensional measurement data, provides live monitoring, SPC analysis, and historical insights—all in one interface.

Technologies Used and Tools

The QuAxium Dashboard was developed using:

Python – the backbone programming language

PySide6 – for building the graphical user interface (GUI)

Matplotlib – for charts and visualizations

NumPy – for numerical and data handling operations

PyCharm – as the integrated development environment (IDE)

Dashboard Parts and Its Functions

At the core, the company vision is designing and building custom measurement jigs along with tailored software like this dashboard. Together, they ensure that every measurement is accurate and reliable.

Before any measurement begins, the part must be properly seated on the jig. If it’s not, the system will not measure. To help with this, there’s a Readiness Test button, which verifies all sensors are aligned and ready before starting.

Key Tabs and Features

Operate Tab

Displays real-time measurement data: hole diameters, roundness, true position, center-to-center distance, angle, and offset.

Provides immediate pass/fail indicators for each feature and the overall part.

Includes a Last 25 panel (recent records in table form) and a Charts panel (trend lines for quick visual insight).

SPC Tab

Dedicated to Statistical Process Control.

Four sub-tabs: Hole 1, Hole 2, Center-to-Center, and Angle.

Displays control charts and process statistics for quality engineers to monitor variation and stability.

History Tab

Provides long-term tracking of dimensional data.

Allows supervisors and engineers to analyze trends, categorize health states, and plan predictive maintenance.

Offers insight into both efficiency and recurring issues, helping reduce downtime.

What Problem It Solves

The QuAxium Dashboard solves a common challenge in manufacturing: detecting measurement drift and quality issues early.

Instead of relying on scattered spreadsheets or manual checks, the app integrates:

Live feedback for operators
SPC charts for quality control
Historical trends for managers

This means quicker decisions, fewer rejects, and better long-term process stability.

Lessons Learned

The importance of planning the database structure first, so live data and historical trends integrate smoothly.
The value of UI/UX design in manufacturing apps—operators need simple, clear feedback.
Balancing real-time speed with statistical accuracy when building dashboards.
Packaging desktop apps (with PyInstaller) taught me how to manage assets, fonts, and database paths cleanly.

Conclusion

The QuAxium Dashboard is more than just software—it’s the result of my journey in quality assurance and software development. By combining my manufacturing background with modern programming tools, I created an app that supports operators, engineers, and managers alike.

This is just one step in my ongoing mission to bring digital solutions into manufacturing—bridging my QA/QC experience with data-driven software engineering.
